MLD (also called Lymphatic Massage or Lymphatic Drainage Massage) is for general health and wellness, as well as pre and post op recovery. It can help reduce swelling and inflammation, improve skin health, boost energy levels, and support your body's natural healing processes. It is perfect for managing conditions such as lymphedema, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and other inflammatory disorders. Reconnect with your body’s natural rhythms and enjoy the profound relaxation and healing effects of MLD. Enhance your health and vitality with the nurturing touch of Manual Lymphatic Drainage.

The lymphatic system is a very important part of our immune system that protects us from disease.

Unlike the circulation of the blood, the lymphatic system has no pumping mechanism. Instead it relies, for example, on muscular movement and breathing to assist the flow of the lymph fluid. Unfortunately the lymphatic system can become very sluggish (due to our sedentary lifestyles and high fat/high salt diets) leading to puffiness, bloating, constant tiredness, low immunity and frequent infections.

Manual lymphatic drainage, MLD, is a gentle form of massage or bodywork that helps the body recover.

A Brief Overview of the Lymphatic System

Welcome to Center for Lymphatic Health Care

The lymphatic system transports excess water, proteins, and waste from connective tissue back to the bloodstream. During this process, lymph fluid is cleaned, filtered, and concentrated. Many immune responses occur in the lymph nodes. If pathways become congested, blocked, damaged, or severed (such as during surgical procedures), fluids can accumulate in the connective tissue, leading to edema and fibrosis, and potentially causing cell pathology. In cases of connective tissue damage (such as burns, chronic inflammation, ulceration, or hematoma), the lymphatic system must transport damaged cells, inflammatory products, and toxins away from the area. The quicker this process happens, the faster the recovery.

Lymph fluid travels through the lymph vessels and drains into the bloodstream. This system, including lymph nodes and lymphatic tissue, is found throughout most of the body, excluding the brain, nails, hair, and joint cavities. The lymphatic system is crucial for maintaining health, removing waste and pathogens, and ensuring fluid balance.

Your lymphatic system consists of lymph vessels, clusters of cells known as lymph nodes, and specific organs, through which lymph fluid circulates. Lymph fluid delivers nutrients to repair cells and clears metabolic waste and foreign substances from them. When lymph fluid does not circulate properly, lymph nodes and surrounding tissues may become swollen, increasing the risk of infection and pain.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), often referred to as Lymphatic Massage, differs significantly from traditional spa massage services. MLD is a medical treatment that focuses on the gentle movement of the skin and underlying lymphatic system, as well as working with the lymph nodes. While the procedure is relaxing, it does not involve muscle manipulation. Therefore, it should not be compared to or expected to deliver the same experience as a spa massage.
